The Economic Return on Investment in South Carolina's Higher Education
On August 19, the S.C. Commission on Higher Education released the study, “ The Economic Return on Investment in South Carolina’s Higher Education ,” which was conducted by USC’s Division of
Research of the Darla Moore School of Business. The event was broadcast to
nine counties around the state via a closed circuit broadcast of SC ETV. Mr.
Ken Wingate, Chairman of the Commission, moderated the press conference and
was joined by USC economist, Dr. Doug Woodward, who along with his colleague
Dr. Paulo Guimaraes led the research, Mr. Daniel Ravenel, who chaired the
legislatively-appointed Higher Education Study Committee, and Mr. Otis Rawl,
president and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce.
Below is the telecast in its entirety broken down into
three sequential segments. The first segment includes a review of the study
by Dr. Woodward. The second segment includes conversation with the panelists
about higher education, the Action Plan, and the value of higher
education to the business community. The press conference lasted
approximately 35 minutes and was followed by a question and answer period of
approximately 30 minutes.
