Charles Schulze joins CHE Board of Commissioners

The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education announced today that Charles Schulze has joined the Board of Commissioners as the Research University Sector Representative, following his appointment by South Carolina Gov. Henry D. McMaster. 

Commissioner Charles Schulze“We are very pleased to welcome Charles Schulze to the Commission,” said CHE Chair Wes Hayes. “His higher education leadership and experience will be of critical importance as we work to enhance access, affordability, and excellence in higher education across the state.”

Schulze has been a member of the board of trustees at the Medical University of South Carolina since 2002 and has held numerous leadership positions there. He is currently the chairman of the board for both MUSC and MUSC Health. He is also a member of the finance and audit committees of both Shriner’s International and Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. 

Schulze’s business experience includes over forty-eight years as a CPA and shareholder with the firm of Elliott Davis, LLC. He currently practices in his own firm. In addition, he is a licensed private investigator in South Carolina and specializes in financial forensics. 

A native and current resident of Greenwood, Schulze is a graduate of the Georgia Military Academy. He received a degree in accounting from the University of Georgia as well as a Master of Accounting from the University of South Carolina. Schulze is a past distinguished lecturer at the University of Georgia and a former member of Georgia’s J.M. Tull School of Accounting Director’s Board. He is also a United States Air Force veteran with honorable service in Vietnam and Korea. 

He replaces Dr. Hubert F. Mobley, who was appointed in 2020 as Research Sector Representative, and will serve on the Committee on Student Services.

Schulze and his wife Sarah have two adult daughters.
